With a multidisciplinary and inclusive perspective, Periferica project wants to experiment with new processes for the design of places, redefining the role of architecture and urban planning through the power of collaboration.
Periferica is a project of urban regeneration that since 2013 has started in the outskirts of Mazara del Vallo a process of investigation, design and construction participated by putting universities, associations and businesses at the system, and placing the citizen in a position to take positive action on their territory. A disused area of 3000 square meters, consisting of a tuff quarry of 2500 square meters plus a former kindergarten of the 80s.
The two spaces, perfectly usable, have been of support for the organization of events and initiatives of various kinds, including the festival. Now they are working on the gradual development of these spaces: they want to put on an outpost that promotes forms of production and cultural promotion throughout the year, with an eye towards urban regeneration practices, inclusion and social innovation.
They aim to collaborate with educational institutions, associations and professionals of various kinds, young entrepreneurs, to give birth to a new polarity within the city. It is expected that these areas will gradually obtain diversified areas, starting from services such as a sustainable guesthouse, a corner food & drink, a Re-cycle & Vintage Shop, to support initiatives such as workshops, talks, events of variable size, residency projects artistic / creative. From the band, their object of analysis is extended to the marginality of places and social contexts, regardless of their geographical location. The mazaresi districts are closely linked to the Italian development policies of the last 50 years, where discontinuity, unruliness and a sense of emergency have repeatedly marked the city without any strategic vision, despite having access to historical, cultural and cultural heritage. naturalistic ones.
They believe that with the outdated vision of a development policy focused exclusively on historical centers, we can respond with a holistic vision of the opportunities of the territory, putting resources and opportunities in the system.
